John Rothman has worked steadily on stage, screen, and television for forty years. A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, he has appeared on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and in many plays directed by such illustrious directors as Mike Nichols, Michael Blakemore, and, this past season, Trevor Nunn. In his film career, John has worked with Paul Greengrass, Alan J. Pakula, Anthony Minghella, Penny Marshall, and many other great directors.
His first film was Woody Allen’s Stardust Memories (1980); he was featured in three more movies by the director. He has been in over a hundred films—among them, Sophie’s Choice (1982), Ghostbusters (1984), Gettysburg (1993), Picture Perfect (1997), Prime (2006), United 93 (2006), and The Devil Wears Prada (2006), as well as many independent films that have been seen at Sundance and other film festivals. Laurie Simmons’ film, My Art, in which he is one of the stars, will open in New York in January 2018.
John is currently a star of Tig Notaro’s Amazon Prime series, One Mississippi, which is in its second critically acclaimed season and is available on Amazon Prime. He has guest-starred and had recurring parts on many TV series. He now serves on the New York board of SAG-AFTRA on the Unions’ national TV/Theatrical negotiating committee. He is a lifetime member of The Actors Studio, Ensemble Studio Theater, and The Actors Center. He is also currently running the Mentor Program for Yale School of Drama.
