Alon Moni Aboutboul was born in Kiryat Ata, Israel to a Jewish family from Egypt and Algeria. He attended the Thelma Yellin High School of Arts in Givatayim. Aboutboul’s first role in a big popular film was in 1986 when he was cast in the Israeli film, Shtei Etzbaot Mi’Tzidon (Two Fingers from Sidon), a movie which took place in the 1982 Lebanon War. For his performance in the film, Aboutboul was later awarded the Best Actor award at the Jerusalem Film Festival. 

Aboutboul later won the Film Actor of the Decade award at the Haifa International Film Festival in 2000. He has also appeared in many American films including Munich (2005), Body of Lies (2008), and The Dark Knight Rises (2012).

He now lives in Los Angeles with his partner, director Shir Bilya, and their four children.
