AN AMERICAN TAIL, the first animated feature presented by Steven Spielberg and directed by former Disney animator Don Bluth, tells the story of Fievel Mousekewitz and his Russian-Jewish mouse family’s escape from their homeland in the late 1800s. Boarding a boat headed for America to evade the Czarist rule of the Russian cats, Fievel gets separated from his mom and dad. To make matters worse, upon arriving in New York City, much to his horror, Fievel learns that there are cats in America, too! Forced to navigate the streets of New York all alone, Fievel meets his share of friendly and hostile mice, and even befriends one of the dreaded cats. Will little Fievel Mousekewitz save the day and reunite with his family? This must-see film, perfect for kids ages 4 and up, is a delightful entrée to family discussions about grandparents and great-grandparents who immigrated to America from Eastern Europe over a century ago.
