bethlehemThe Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival is honored to present BETHLEHEM, Israel’s Official Oscar Entry into the American Academy Awards, as its Closing Night Film. Directed by Israel’s Yuval Adler and co-written by Adler and Arab journalist Ali Waked, BETHLEHEM won the FEODORA award at the Venice Film Festival, best film at the Haifa International Film Festival, and six Ophir Awards (Israeli Oscars) for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Editing, and Best Casting. The film was also an Official Selection of the Toronto International Film Festival and Telluride.
BETHLEHEM centers on the relationship between Sanfur, a 17-year-old native of Bethlehem, and Razi, an officer in the Shin Bet (the military intelligence wing of the Israeli army). Sanfur is the younger brother of Ibrahim, a Palestinian militant. His loyalties to both his brother and Razi are compromised when a chain of unfortunate events forces him to choose sides, once and for all.

Haifa International Film Festival judges wrote of their award winner: “The movie gripped us from the first scene …and is still with us hours and days after viewing it.”

This film was generously underwritten by The Djerassi Family Foundation, in honor of Dr. Isaac Djerassi, & Susanna Lachs Adler and Dean Adler
