Israeli and Palestinian students putting their difference aside to play music together in a youth orchestra sounds like the dream of a naive idealist. While eliminating discord and achieving harmony are undeniably noble undertakings, is music really powerful enough to pierce through years of caustic political discourse and the real-life suffering experienced by both sides of the conflict?

To answer that question, for over two decades, young musicians from Israel and Palestine have performed classical music together in conductor Daniel Barenboim’s West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. The students who’ve taken part in his world-class ensemble grasp that they are reaching for something impossible, but they still believe it is important to try. It is the act of trying, itself, that lies at the center of CRESCENDO, a story about a similarly ambitious initiative played out in South Tyrol, Austria. Starring Peter Simonischek (Toni Erdmann, The Interpreter) and an impressive supporting cast of Israeli and Palestinian non-actors, this affecting film about forgiveness and reconciliation will strike a chord with audiences, young and old alike.

PLEASE NOTE: The film will be shown in the Black Box Theater of the Film Center which means seating is limited! Get your tickets while they last!
