Ori, a young IDF soldier, is critically injured during a botched military operation in Gaza. He lies comatose, clinging to his life with his family by his bedside. David (Sharon Bar-Ziv) and Naomi (Keren Mor) have always thought of Ori as a fighter. Although they acknowledge it will take some time, deep down they believe their son will eventually come around. Especially close with Ori, David refuses to leave his side. He sleeps at the hospital and speaks to Ori around the clock, should he suddenly awake and hear his father’s voice. During a rehabilitation process that stretches out for months, family, friends, doctors, and therapists come together in support of Ori’s recovery.
GPJFF alumnus Sharon Bar-Ziv (Room 514) expertly directs and stars in this sensitive portrait of a family in the throes of trauma. Filled with heartbreak, humor, and hope,GOOD MORNING SON continues the director’s penchant for shooting penetrating dramatic narrative in tight, contained spaces. Choosing not to rely on sweeping establishing shots or multiple locations to build tension and anticipation in his stories, he instead concentrates on the language of faces, gestures, and movement within the frame. His filmmaking style aims a spotlight on his characters and the actors who bring their inspirational stories of human resilience to life.
