Meet the man behind the prize that bears his name! Over a century ago, Joseph Pulitzer, a young, penniless Jewish immigrant from Hungary, came to America in search of opportunity. He began his decades-long career as a journalist before becoming an accomplished publisher of his own New York newspaper, the New York World. Known for his forthright editorial voice and his principled journalistic ideals, Pulitzer called out the deployment of “fake news” and championed the importance of freedom of the press. His game-changing originality, artistry, and fearless leadership gained the loyalty of an unprecedented number of readers and catapulted his paper to national circulation and financial success. As America proved itself a world power during the Gilded Age, Pulitzer emerged as the country’s first media titan, reshaping his newspaper to propel himself even further on the world stage.
With narration by Adam Driver (BlacKkKlansman) and supporting voice work by Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), and Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou?), this illuminating and timely doc will especially resonate in today’s fraught political atmosphere.
