MY POLISH HONEYMOON begins as a light romantic comedy but emerges into a rich journey of self-discovery. Judith Chemla (Camille Rewinds) and Arthur Igual (Stefan Zweig: Farewell to Europe) star as Anna and Adam, young Parisian Jewish newlyweds of Polish descent. When Adam is invited to a ceremony in Poland commemorating the destruction of his grandfather’s village during the Holocaust, Anna suggests that she accompanies her husband on the trip so they could take the long-awaited honeymoon they’ve been dreaming about. While Adam is not exactly keen on spending his honeymoon in Poland, he reluctantly succumbs to Anna’s wishes. With Anna’s parents watching their newborn, the couple journeys to Poland to explore their roots. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long for the couple to realize that the issues troubling their marriage in Paris have opted to hitch a ride in their suitcase. Although Anna is eager to learn about her heritage, her emotional state slowly begins to unravel and take a toll on her relationship with David.
Focusing on the longing and confusion ofthird-generation survivors who have experienced multigenerational silence in their families, MY POLISH HONEYMOON speaks to the universal desire to know oneself and where one comes from. After all, without our identity, what’s to stop us from merely floating?
