Kokoe Tanaka-Suwan has performed throughout the world as a professional violinist and holds a Doctorate Degree in Musical Arts. She is the Music Director at the Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls (BGLIG), where she developed a music curriculum so all 450 students (K-8) receive violin instruction. Dr. Tanaka-Suwan and BGLIG’s music program are featured in the 2017 Academy Award nominated documentary short film, Joe’s Violin. Under her tutelage, BGLIG’s music program has received international acclaim, is the recipient of two prestigious grants awarded by Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, and is recognized as one of the leading public music programs in the United States.
