Louis Barson has been involved in the family food business of delicatessens and catering for more than 30 years. He attended Lower Merion schools, graduating from Harriton High School in 1984. He was a finance major at New York University and then transferred back home to start work in the family business, graduating in 1989 from Temple University with a bachelor’s degree in finance.
In 1990, Louis purchased Hymie’s Deli from his father and his partner, determining to grow the business by establishing a different business model. Since then, sales have increased over 300% due in part to Louis’s deep involvement in the day-to-day operations of the business from the front of the house to purchasing and staffing. Louis also recognized the need to provide office buildings and workers in locations not close to restaurants with access to good and reasonably priced food so he pioneered the concept of starting office building “cafes.” Since 1993, he has designed and built over 35 cafe operations throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. At present, Louis owns and operates 9 cafes in office buildings in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Louis employs more than 100 people in his different businesses and is proud of the loyalty he has received from his employees because of his commitment to treating all of them in a fair and respectful manner.
