MEMOIR OF WAR is an intimate glimpse into acclaimed French writer Marguerite Duras’s painful wartime memories. When her husband, a leader in the French Resistance, is captured by the Nazis, Marguerite (Mélanie Thierry, The Dancer) is torn apart by the loneliness of her husband’s absence and the constant fear of not knowing if he is suffering or even alive. A high-ranking Nazi collaborator, Pierre (Benoît Magimel, The Piano Teacher), admires Marguerite’s writing and takes an interest in her, even offering to use his influence to protect her husband. Her friends and fellow French Resistance members are opposed to their meetings, but Marguerite sees him anyway and must determine for herself the lengths to which she’s willing to go to secure her husband’s safety.

Told primarily through poetic, lyrical narration reminiscent of Terrence Malick, this gorgeously filmed war drama from Emmanuel Finkiel (Voyages) is a harrowing account of the lengths we go to save the ones we love.
