Adapted from the title story in his acclaimed collection, Natasha and Other Stories, David Bezmozgis’ NATASHA centers on a Soviet-era Latvian Jewish immigrant family and their new life in suburban Toronto. Sixteen-year-old Mark Berman is a smalltime weed dealer with a fondness for Nietzsche, shiftlessness, and porn. When his uncle comes home with a new Russian bride and her daughter, Mark not only gains a new aunt and cousin, but a wild companion with a mysterious past. With little interest in holding down a regular summer job, Mark’s mom tasks him with keeping his new “cousin,” Natasha, company. Proving increasingly difficult due to both Natasha’s precociousness and his own raging teenage libido, the young lovers begin a forbidden romance that can only end one way.
