Before he was world-famous mime Marcel Marceau, he was Marcel Mangel, an aspiring Jewish actor whose passions included impersonating Charlie Chaplin in burlesque clubs, painting the backdrops for his plays, and antagonizing his obstinate father. RESISTANCE is the first film to tell the incredible story of how Mangel came to be Marcel Marceau — a transformation which obliged the gifted performer to trade in his yearning to conquer the stage with his calling to conquer the Nazis.
Academy Award nominee Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) stars as the singular entertainer-turned-unsung hero whose courage in the French Resistance saved the lives of thousands of orphaned children forced to flee Nazi-occupied France for Switzerland. With the children’s destiny in his hands, Marceau puts his acting skills to the ultimate test. Would his unique brand of ingenuity and talent for miming be enough to successfully teach the children the skills necessary to survive the horrifying reality of the Holocaust? Find out at GPJFF’s exclusive Festival Plus! Sneak Peek of RESISTANCE!
